MEDIFLY Baggots
MEDIFLY Baggots is a biosurgical wound dressing containing living larvae of the greenbottle fly Lucilia Cuprina, enclosed in a polyester pouch. The larvae are grown in an aseptic environment and are sterilised to meet international standards for use as a medical device.
How It Works
1
The newly hatched larvae measure around 1-2 mm long and are contained in a sealed enclosure.
2
The secretions from the larvae pass through the porous material to liquify the devitalised tissue and remove bacteria.
3
Exudate passes through the polyester enclosure and is removed by the outer secondary dressing.
4
MEDIFLY Baggots will then be removed from the wound bed by a professional after up to four days.
